This resort is nicknamed l'île au soleil (the sunny isle) and is located on a south facing plateau at an altitude of 1860 m in the Oisans massif.
L'Alpe d'Huez and its ski area benefit from lots of sun (up to 7½ hours of sunshine in December).
Ski on the Sarenne piste, famous for being the longest groomed slope in the world, with 16 km of downhill starting from the Pic Blanc (3330 m) and going all the way to the Sarenne gorges at the foot of the village of Huez (1450 m).
131 safe and signposted pistes making for 250 km of skiable slopes: Le Grand Domaine groups together L'Alpe d'Huez and five other resorts (Auris-en-Oisans, La Garde, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany et Villard-Reculas).
